    Hi Jaime,

Since you are welcoming opinions.. Here's mine:

Day 2 in office and we been notified that:

    1. GITMO will close in a year. Of course, this is to please the lefties and sounds lovely in concept. Yet.. no one has a clue what to do with the prisoners/terrorist. I don't know about you.. but I don't what them in my backyard. No thanks.

    2. Obama put a pay freeze on his entire staff for the next four years but yet.. he's not taking one himself??!! Hmmm, That doesn't sound very fair.

    3. Apparently we are NOW responsible for abortions in foreign countries to foreigners that can't afford it! Sorry.. but this one really pisses me off. I don't care if you are pro-life or pro-choice.. We have no busy paying this expense!

    4. We are one step closer to socialized medical care for all of our children of families that make less than $65 grand a year. It's an expansion to the SCHIP program and to be covered by all smokers. The problem with this is they need more smokers to cover the expense. More like 22 million more smokers in fact. Does this one make sense?? Not to me it doesn't! Trying selling this one to New Yorkers...LOL

And oh yes.. finally, The grand stimulus plan.. trillions of dollars at the expense of all tax payers wont even go into affect until 2011. Hopefully by 2010 when Congress will re-elect it's officials. Blue Dog Democrats will have held out and voted no toward stupidity and Conservative Republicans will have wised up.

Yep.. great start toward "change".. NOT!! All that being said.. I'm in complete agreement with Elizabeth. A change to and beginning of error indeed.

    Your friend,

    Jeni aka Swt:

Boy, do i recognize Sean Hannity/Rush Limbaugh talking points when I see them! Here goes. LOL!

    1. GITMO will close in a year. Of course, this is to please the lefties and sounds lovely in concept. Yet.. no one has a clue what to do with the prisoners/terrorist. I don't know about you.. but I don't what them in my backyard. No thanks."

As you know, the US Constitution provides for habeas corpus. Prisoners were kept in Cuba because the Bush administration thought (mistakenly) that by keeping them off American soil, they could circumvent our laws and hold these people indefinitely without a trial to determine their guilt or innocence. No one is saying these prisoners are good people, but unlike them, Americans have great respect for basic human rights...and I'm glad Obama is correcting this abuse. Obama said during his campaign and most recently during his Inaugural speech that we're done sacrificing our civil liberties for a false sense of security (please read the article I link to below). I don't know where you live, but i doubt these prisoners will be in your backyard. They'll be in SuperMax prisons....just like other horrible American psychopaths...who never escape. You're not suggesting we transfer all dangerous American inmates in the US penal system out of "our backyards" and over to GITMO so we'll be safe from them, are you?

True, there is no plan in place about where exactly these prisoners will be transferred to...i guess that's why they're giving themselves 12 months....you know....to plan.

    2. Obama put a pay freeze on his entire staff for the next four years but yet.. he's not taking one himself??!! Hmmm, That doesn't sound very fair.

Wrong. It's not his entire staff. It's only the high-paid staffers who make $100K+. They knew that would be the policy before they were hired. But come on....Are you really concerned about highly compensated, leftist policy wonks not getting an annual pay raise when other Americans are getting laid off? Doubt it. Personally, I think it sets a good example. I'm sure nearly ALL of those high paid staffers took big pay cuts to join the Administration and take a Government salary....they knew what they were getting into. Where did you hear that Obama is not taking a pay freeze as well? Can you cite a source? If that's true, then i think he should freeze his own as well.

    3. Apparently we are NOW responsible for abortions in foreign countries to foreigners that can't afford it! Sorry.. but this one really pisses me off. I don't care if you are pro-life or pro-choice.. We have no busy paying this expense!

Hmmm....I guess liberals prefer to provide access to various birth control methods (including contraceptives and abortions) to the people of Third World countries where overpopulation is a genuine health concern....Bush put an end to these birth control programs when he came in to Office...I'm happy Obama is reversing it again. It's pretty ironic how some pro-lifers are upset about contraception and abortion funding for third world countries returning, while they have no problem with the weapon systems we the taxpayers pay for that are used to kill many of these same "foreigners."

"22 million more smokers in fact." Well, 22 million more by the year 2017 according to the neocon Heritage Foundation calculations, at least. Read the fine print of their methodology. I don't think increasing the Fed tax on a pack of cigarettes to an even $1 per pack is outlandish. Especially if it helps pay for healthcare for poorer families. Is it perfect....probably not. What's the alternative?

And oh yes.. finally, The grand stimulus plan.. trillions of dollars at the expense of all tax payers wont even go into affect until 2011. Hopefully by 2010 when Congress will re-elect it's officials. Blue Dog Democrats will have held out and voted no toward stupidity and Conservative Republicans will have wised up.

Yeah, I heard Rush Limbaugh going on with these same talking points today, too. But Trillions? Plural? It's actually almost a couple hundred billion LESS than one-trillion, but yeah...it's a lot of money. The money is going towards large projects like building schools, power grids for alternative energy projects, etc. Large scale projects that Obama campaigned on. And guess what....Obama won by a landslide. These projects can't start at the drop of a hat. But once they do, they'll put millions of folks to work. Millions. AND it will go towards our infrastructure that will help lead towards energy independence. That'll be about 500B of the 850B. the remaining 350B will be in the form of tax cuts for all Americans....businesses and individuals. A dyed in the wool conservative like you should be applauding that, no?

    Here's a great column I read today:

i said you were "entitled to your opinion" to a woman I have never seen on here before(my bad for being polite)...NOT that i was accepting that crap *ahem* opinions at all regarding the election. This was a simple and humorous celebratory post I did for our new President of the United States. It would have been better should i had time, as you see i'm not posting much these days. Thanks for shitting all over it!

bitterness looks bad on you, Jeni.

    1. I don't give a damn about terrorist civil liberties as they don't give a damn about mankind, not just Americans! They wish to destroy anyone that doesn't follow suit with their causes/beliefs. There is no changing that, conformity is not possible with them. Bringing them here, even to a super max prison is just downright stupid. They are NOT Americans and they are not worth our benefits, our care, our liberties. Obama stating that we sacrificed our civil liberties for a false sense of security is just bull. We haven't had an attack since 911. I'd say that made us pretty secure. Also, a plan without a plan is also dumb and premature. Like I said before.. just to please the lefties.

    2. As for the pay freezes... it may set an example but it wont affect our growing debt. As for his (Obama) own pay freeze.. if he were to take one, believe me it would have been announced.

    3. Sorry.. You wont win me over on this argument. We have NO business paying for 3rd world countries' abortions!! ABSOULTELY NOT!

    4. Of course, this one cracks me up because it makes no sense. I don't have a problem raising taxes on cigs. But to promote smoking in order to cover the expense is absurd! There is no logic in that at all. The fact is.. Big Government is NOT the answer. The more we give them control, the more freedoms we lose. Universal healthcare limits medical care. Just ask anyone in countries that has that program already, they'll tell you.. it has major flaws, waiting list, assigned doctors, and poor care.

5.. Trillions of dollars more, Yes A Trillion in addition to the bailout funds more spent on a programs that has no guarantees to work. Just because one man says it will, doesn't mean it will. Where's the money coming from? You, your children, and grandchildren. Spending Tax Dollars to jump start an economy has never worked. Those who are ignore history are condemned to repeat it! Ask yourself this.. how well is the bailout working for us all now?? IT's NOT. It didn't do a damn bit of good. Ask yourselves this.. how well did those stimulus checks we got last year do for our economy. IT DID NOTHING!! Throwing money at a economical problem does NOT work.

Btw.. being compared to well-known conservatives is NOT an insult. It's a huge compliment and I thank you for noticing that I am in fact conservative in every sense of the word! I wouldn't be any other way.

Jaime.. You do realize that when people can't debate or even discuss issues, then they resort to name calling. Calling me bitter as a reply made me laugh and I would expect no less from you. However, I am happy you had your warm fuzzy moment. It was a good day in America. Was it a good day FOR America? That is yet to be seen.

    Take care,

    Jeni

Just a quick couple of things...

"Sorry.. You wont win me over on this argument."

Truth be told, i'm not looking to win you over at all. No disrepect, but your ignorance is your own problem....i was just looking to bring some truth to the Comments section because reading what you wrote was super annoying.

"Spending Tax Dollars to jump start an economy has never worked. Those who are ignore history are condemned to repeat it!"

Really? Ever hear of the New Deal or the Marshall Plan? Apparently not. It's history...and you're ignoring it. There's this cool new website called Google.com where you can type words in and learn about them. Try it! Regardless, i'll admit that i'm not a huge fan of all this TARP money that Bush signed into law either. I'm no economist, and it's apparent that you aren't either, so i'll admit that i don't know what's worse...action or inaction. BUT I DO know that industry deregulation and laissez faire policies got us into this mess in the first place.

If you don't get that America has a responsibilty to lead by EXAMPLE, then, in my opinion, you have a twisted sense of patriotism. I'm glad Obama has reversed Bush's allowance of torture and suspension of habeus corpus.

Oh, and let not your heart be troubled...i wasnt comparing you to Sean Hannity...i was just implying you were regurgitating his talking points like a good little neocon. Good job! You're hilarious, i love it! DON'T CHANGE!

Yep, I have heard of the New Deal and Marshall Plan. The Marshall plan was to rebuild Europe after WWII and the New Deal under FDR was supposed to end the recession but all it did was extend the depression until WWII. We did NOT come out of the depression until WWII. That's what got us out of the depression, not the NEW DEAL! I haven't a clue why you even bring up the Marshall Plan.

The C.R.A (Community Reinvestment Act) combined with S.E.C. (Securities Exchange Commission) not doing their job plus a lack of over site is why we are in the mess that we are in today. So, I half agree with you there!

This has been hilarious to me as well and in typical liberal forum, when one gets frustrated.. the name calling and petty insults fly!

Sorry Jaime.. I wasn't going to come back.. but I simply couldn't resist. LOL

    Peace out!

Oh don't be such a stick in the mud, jeni. God, a little gentle ribbing and you Neocons whine about "name calling." This is what makes Mann Coulter so unattractive....that and her gigantic adams apple. Don't forget that we were having this discussion under a post about a funny t-shirt slogan. So humorless you are.

Here's that Marshall said about the Marshall Plan:
Marshall outlined the US government's preparedness to contribute to European recovery. "It is logical," said Marshall, "that the United States should do whatever it is able to do to assist in the return of normal economic health to the world, without which there can be no political stability and no assured peace. Our policy is not directed against any country, but against hunger, poverty, desperation and chaos. Any government that is willing to assist in recovery will find full co-operation on the part of the U.S.A." Marshall was convinced that economic stability would provide political stability in Europe. He offered aid, but the European countries had to organise the programme themselves.
So yes, the Marshall Plan was, in effect, an economic stimulus package.

I'm glad you believe the SEC has an important job in maintaining a stable economic environment (despite having failed during the Bush years). I'm glad because the SEC is part of the New Deal. As is FDIC and Social Security.

The Marshall Plan was in acted to restore peace and recover Europe after the devastation of WWII. It was completely wiped out! No infrastructure of any kind. We went in to rebuilt and had to reorganize until they could take care of themselves. You know, kind of like what we are doing for Iraq. Germany was responsible for their own economy. The Marshall Plan didn't bring them out of the recession. They did that themselves and it wasn't immediate. So I guess you could "assume" it was some sort of stimulus as they had no where but UP to go! The times then, don't compare to those of now. Our infrastructure is in tact.

How convenient you overlooked the C.R.A. Perhaps you should do a little googling yourself. Who started it?.. CARTER! Who mucked it up?.. CLINTON. Who did NOTHING about it?.. S.E.C. and our government! There is plenty of room to blame for all but you don't force banks to give out loans to people that can't afford it. Too many shoty loans and Badda Bing, Badda Boom... Foreclosures, Bankruptcy, Insurance Companies fail and need a bailout.. Banks can't get the money they loaned and need a bailout, We give them one.. they do nothing but hold onto it. and Viola! A HUGE economic problem. Good job Democrats for starting that mess in the first place. *insert disgust here*

    Tag your it!

Sorry...i had originally written that you were keeping true to Hannity fashion by blaming Carter and Clinton for all the nation's woes! LOL.

Yes, the CRA. Hannity loves to say it "FORCED" these poor banks to make loans to people that couldn't afford to pay them. But that's simply not true. See, this is the problem when you get all your news and information from right wingnut blogs and radio talk shows. The CRA forbade banks from refusing mortgage loans in certain geographical locations. i forget the term they used...maybe "red zoning"? You see, prior to the CRA, any FDIC insured bank could refuse to lend to a credit-worthy person for a mortgage on a home in certain neighborhoods (typically minority neighborhoods in urban areas). The CRA changed this discriminatory. But this notion that the CRA "forced" banks to lend to anyone, regardless of how poor their credit score was, is a flat out lie. Sorry. I'm not calling you a liar....i'm just saying you've been lied to and unfortunately you believed it. These subprime loans are a result of greed on the part of the banks, followed by the stupidity on the part of the financial wizards that securitized them. it's confusing, i know. here's a primer that i found helpful:
    http://docs.google.com/TeamPresent?docid=ddp4zq7n_0cdjsr4fn&skipauth=true&pli=1

The Subprime mortgage are a mostly suburban and exurban phenomenon. Defaulted subprimes are a huge reason we're in our current economic state. The CRA deals largely with mortgages in urban areas.

Teaching you all this stuff has grown tiresome. Good bye forever.

Oh, and the Hannity Kool-Aid joke was boring.

"Sorry...i had originally written that you were keeping true to Hannity fashion by blaming Carter and Clinton for all the nation's woes! LOL."

What do I say to that.. Hindsight is 20/20?? duh! Say what you mean the first time around.

You can try all you wish but you can't deny the facts.. it was indeed Democrat Presidents that created and flubbed up the C.R.A. Like I mentioned before.. do your own research. As for questioning my information.. it's not all media driven unlike you MSNBC zealots. I ask real people in the same situations. Smaller and localize Banks weren't affected as the bigger corps were and they are thriving still today. Bigger Banks Corporations were pressured under the C.R.A. Subprime loans came as a result of Barney Frank and the C.R.A.

And oh yeah.. sorry but you were misinformed again, the Kool-Aid Joke started by an editorial cartoonist and first published in the Chicago Tribune. It just caught on very quickly! The media loves that stuff. Research, Research, Research.. before you preach, might I suggest!

    Sincerely,

    You know who :-) *smirk*
