boy do i feel stupid right now

Friday, May 30, 2008

I'm sitting here surfing the web and watching the Great American Spelling Bee...and wow do I feel stupid. So far I have not seen ONE WORD THAT I HAVE EVER HEARD OF! lol! let alone be able to spell it. I have to give props to these kids...all around 13 yrs old. it's down to the final 2 at the moment...a winner may be "crowned" by the time i'm done typing this post...wow..the word he just spelled!!

It does make you motivated to get your child(ren) to read, and just learn in general. Which brings me to the point of this post...I am so proud of my lil man, my son Gavin. He will be 3 at the end of July and at the rate he is going he may be able to read by kindergarten! he knows all his letters, can distinguish most lowercase letters...and just simply amazes me! My husband says he was reading by the time he was five. So my question is this: do you think that when it comes to reading, it's more hereditary? or do you have to just start teaching them young? Because my son was obsessed with his colors and knew them all by his first birthday. yes, i'm bragging now...i'm a proud mommy and it's allowed!

ESCLANDRE- that's the word the boy is attempting to spell right now...boy, you have to google this word and just laugh. I may have been able to use that word at some point, and probably will in the future with my toddler! lol!

GUERDON...this is the winning word. WOW. Congrats to the winner. This is the first time I have watched this and I'm glad I did. Encouraging for kids and parents...

Feel free to leave a comment bragging about your
child(ren)! you know it makes you feel good. you know you want to. you know you should!

Tantrum Three's

Saturday, May 24, 2008

My son is almost 3. Which means... A: we've made it out of the terrible twos (which really were not terrible at all)

but

B: are entering what can be the tantrum threes!

Are tantrums a learned trait or another emotional phase??

I ask this because I think my lil man could be picking up tantrum habits from his playmate. He actually imitates the exact "grunt" that his friend does when he has his bad fits and I can't stand it! lol! I'm looking for suggestions to nip this in the budd before it gets worse. I can handle a tantrum, what I can't handle is how to let my son know that what his friend does is not allowed for him to do...without insulting his friend. Geez, last thing I need is my son to go over his friend's house saying, "my mommy says I can't flip out like you do because..." !!! Let me know what you think, please don't let me talk to myself again. :)

Are you embarassed?

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

I'm watching American Idol's Grande Finale. My husband thinks i'm sad...i told him it's been 7 years and I've never missed one, why is he surprised?? And also, I told him to look around...I'm not the ONLY ONE WATCHING!

Are you embarassed that you watch a certain show? OR hide the fact that you do? Come on, spill it...or AM I TALKIN TO MYSELF?

**this is my first post here and I really just wanted to write one and didn't put much thought into it. I hope it's not TOO obvious. lol! but bare w/ me...and i'll get more creative later. I'm learning this site and will tweak my blog here and there.
